COMETA strengthens the ecosystem that sustains human rights protection and social justice — even in the most hostile environments across Latin America.
ECOS is a strategic initiative to equip civil society organizations across the Global South with the resilience and sustainability tools they need to endure. Join us as an ally and help local initiatives thrive, even in adverse environments.
Civic space is shrinking. International funding is drying up. For civil society organizations across Mexico and Central America, the risks have never been greater — this isn’t just about scarce resources anymore. It’s a direct threat to their ability to operate safely and independently.
Sustained support from the Global North is essential to keep these spaces for social transformation alive.
Our Solution: ECOS Bridge
COMETA is the technical arm that channels global support into the Mesoamerican region, built on two pillars:
Strategic Thinking
Clear direction and sharper prioritization of activities.
Financial Resilience
Strategies for autonomy and funding diversification.
Continuity Pathways
Stronger ecosystems — Communities of practice, horizontal learning, and vibrant, peer-led strategic exchange.
Institutional strengthening — Deeper support in areas like communications and organizational resilience.
Facilitator training — Collective workshops designed to multiply impact.
Shared knowledge — Open resources that serve civil society organizations worldwide.
Impact and Results
“The Theory of Change (TOC) provides us with insights on the course of direction the organization should take. This year we created a new area within the organization, and its creation was included as part of the TOC.”
Reflections on Resilience in Civil Society Organizations
An initiative driven by the Ford Foundation and composed of various organizations from the Global South, aimed at establishing and coordinating resource centers that provide technical and advisory services to other movements and organizations—also from the Global South—in areas of strategic importance such as strategic communication, security and holistic well-being, and institutional resilience.
We are sharing a brief video capturing our experience at the second meeting of the Weaving Resilience Initiative, held in Rio de Janeiro last April, with organizations that are part of the resource centers supported by the Ford Foundation across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
COMETA renewed its commitment to participate in the Weaving Resilience Convening Working Group alongside other organizations, continuing to facilitate spaces for horizontal learning and exchanges on topics of shared interest related to strategic communication, security and holistic well-being, and institutional resilience.
Allies
We want to incorporate allies to continue weaving a more resilient civil society. With your help, we can support more organizations.
We are deeply thankful with the Ford Foundation, the Foundation for a Just Society and the Packard Foundation for supporting our work in Ecos Initiative.
